About this role

You will support a leading GenAI research team by evaluating high-resolution images and video at pixel level to improve the visual quality of next-generation AI models. The role is designed for senior professionals from film, VFX, animation, cinematography, color grading, rendering, lighting, and high-end photography who can identify subtle visual defects such as compression artifacts, aliasing, noise, banding, inconsistent grain, and improper sharpening. You will also help develop evaluation standards, create visual test samples, and provide precise feedback that improves AI-generated and enhanced visual content.

Responsibilities

Pixel-level visual evaluation: Review high-resolution video and still images to identify compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, grain inconsistencies, and over- or under-sharpening.
Visual quality assurance: Flag outputs that fail to meet professional film, VFX, animation, photography, or cinematic-quality standards.
Evaluation framework development: Design and refine rating templates, visual-quality guidelines, and edge-case criteria for reviewers.
Technical description: Translate complex visual defects and image-quality observations into clear, precise written language for captions and evaluation templates.
Sample generation: Create original visual samples for targeted testing, comparison, and model evaluation.
Sequence consistency: Assess visual continuity and quality consistency across frames, shots, and sequences.
SME collaboration: Work with visual experts and program leads to calibrate evaluation standards and maintain reviewer consistency.
AI training support: Provide expert-level annotations and structured visual feedback to support GenAI training and evaluation datasets.

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in high-end visual evaluation, film, VFX, animation, cinematography, professional photography, or a closely related discipline.
Direct professional experience as a VFX Supervisor, Rendering Supervisor, Lighting Supervisor/Artist, Colorist, Cinematographer/Director of Photography, Effects Artist, Surfacing Artist, High-End Photographer, Director, Digital Projectionist, or comparable visual-quality specialist.
Strong understanding of visual perception, lighting, image formation, color, texture, grain, depth of field, sharpness, and digital image artifacts.
Ability to identify subtle pixel-level quality issues that may not be noticeable to general viewers.
Training from a respected university or professional program in film, visual effects, animation, digital media, photography, or a related visual discipline.
Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor or display for precise image evaluation.
Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, including the ability to generate visual samples for testing.
Excellent written English and ability to clearly describe complex visual characteristics and defects.
Must be based in the United States and available to work with hours overlapping the PST to EST window.
