About this role

You will evaluate and improve AI-powered medical coding systems used across professional fee and inpatient facility workflows. The role combines coding operations leadership, audit expertise, revenue integrity, and AI quality evaluation. You will review AI-generated ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, DRG, and related coding assignments, identify errors and compliance risks, and provide structured feedback to help train next-generation autonomous coding systems.

Responsibilities

Coding operations leadership: Oversee professional fee and/or inpatient facility coding workflows, productivity, accuracy, and compliance.
AI coding evaluation: Review AI-generated ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, procedure, diagnosis, and DRG assignments for accuracy and compliance.
Coding audits: Conduct quality audits and provide targeted feedback to coding teams and AI systems.
KPI monitoring: Track coder productivity, coding accuracy, unbilled accounts, turnaround times, and coding-related denial rates.
Workflow management: Manage coding queues, work distribution, and turnaround-time performance.
Compliance: Ensure coding practices align with Official Coding Guidelines, CMS requirements, and payer-specific rules.
Coding education: Deliver ongoing coding education, compliance guidance, and quality improvement support.
Revenue integrity collaboration: Work with CDI, billing, compliance, and revenue-cycle teams to address coding-related issues.
AI training support: Annotate AI-generated coding outputs and provide structured expert feedback for model-training datasets.

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of professional medical coding experience, including at least 2 years in a Coding Manager, HIM leadership, or comparable supervisory role.
Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, DRG assignment, and Official Coding Guidelines.
Strong experience in professional fee coding and/or inpatient facility coding.
Experience conducting coding audits and developing coding quality-improvement programs.
Strong understanding of coding compliance, payer requirements, CMS regulations, and revenue integrity.
Proficiency with coding platforms such as 3M, Nuance, Optum360, TruCode, or equivalent tools.
Experience working with EHR platforms and coding workflow systems.
Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
High attention to detail and ability to identify coding errors, compliance risks, and inaccuracies in AI-generated coding outputs.
Must be based in the United States.
