About this role

In this role, you'll apply your biology and drug-discovery expertise to help support AI research by verifying protein target assignments in large-scale bioactivity databases. You'll research primary literature, apply scientific judgment to determine whether UniProt IDs accurately reflect the proteins being studied, and provide evidence-grounded corrections and reasoning. This opportunity is suited for experienced biology professionals with hands-on assay experience, current bench activity, and familiarity with UniProt and related drug-discovery workflows.

Biology Research Scientist (BA, MS, PhD)

Responsibilities

Verify protein target assignments against UniProt records using primary sources including papers and patents.
Flag and classify target assignment errors using a structured taxonomy.
Propose correct UniProt accessions where existing assignments are wrong.
Write concise, evidence-grounded notes explaining the reasoning behind target assignment decisions.
Apply scientific judgment when reviewing protein targets and related bioactivity information.
Support AI drug discovery pipelines through accurate verification of protein target assignments.

Qualifications

BA/BS with 5+ years experience, MS with 2+ years experience, or PhD with industry or drug discovery research experience in pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or chemical biology at a biotech, pharma, or CRO.
Hands-on binding or functional assay experience, including SPR, TR-FRET, radioligand binding, kinase assays, or GPCR functional assays, with IC50/Ki/KD experience.
Currently bench-active in a research, scientist, or associate scientist role.
Working fluency with UniProt or adjacent workflows such as SAR support, HTS, target validation, biochemical profiling, or IND-enabling studies.
Direct experience with ChEMBL, BindingDB, or PubChem is a plus.
Selectivity profiling, counterscreening, or familiarity with agonist/antagonist versus activator/inhibitor distinctions is a plus.
